MGI Worldwide and Mackrell International collaborate to serve the global cannabis industry, creating the ‘Cannabis Law and Accounting Group’

MGI Worldwide and Mackrell International (MI) are pleased to announce a collaboration to serve the global cannabis industry, the creation of the “Cannabis Law and Accounting Group - Powered by MGI Worldwide and Mackrell International.” The Group is focused on a diverse market broadly divided into four distinct sectors: Medical, Wellness, Recreational and Industrial Hemp.

The purpose of the Cannabis Law and Accounting Group

Drawing from MGI Worldwide and MI’s wide network of accounting, tax, legal, and advisory experts, the goal of the Cannabis Law and Accounting Group is geared to provide a full range of comprehensive services to new and established businesses in those cannabis sectors. The network has a vast worldwide footprint and includes accounting, legal, and advisory professionals who have designated practices and have been successfully servicing the cannabis industry around the global since 2009.

An initiative that began a few years ago

During the 2019 North America Regional Conference held in New York City, Nancy Damato, MGI North America’s Marketing Director, Nigel Rowley, Managing Partner of London Headquartered Mackrell Solicitors, and Cory Parnell, COO, and Jim Marty, CEO of MGI member Bridge West CPAs & Advisors addressed attendees. The group presented an industry overview, the initial marketing plans for the organizations to collaborate and encouraged member firms to learn more about the industry and participate in the practice group. 

For the past few years, MGI and MI have partnered to attend industry events, including the 2019 MJBizCon, the preeminent Cannabis Business Conference, to meet industry leaders and connect with cannabis professionals. MGI and MI have also collaborated on zoom calls and MI has held several virtual working groups to gather member firms with industry expertise throughout North America, Europe, Asia and beyond. Nancy Damato is guiding MGI's participation and involvement in the group. She is actively collaborating with the Bridge West Team and the MI Cannabis Team, including Mackrell Solicitors’ Nigel Rowley, Chris Lane, Head of Business Development and Marketing, Elliott Rolfe, Head of Psychoactive Medicines Law & Regulatory, and Ricardo Geada, Partner and Head of Cannabis & Regulatory Team.

As legislation evolves and adapts to the growing cannabis industry, there are vast opportunities to serve this market worldwide. This is an excellent time to learn more about this expanding industry and please consider participating in this industry group. All members are welcome to join, learn, and collaborate! From a marketing and branding perspective, our group will discuss opportunities to participate in industry blogs, webinars, events, and more! The logo has been developed to represent this group and will be used to promote this initiative when MGI and MI member firms collaborate and attend industry events.  

The goals for this industry group include:

• Providing educational opportunities for members to learn more about the cannabis industry (Medical, Wellness, Recreational and Industrial Hemp), and the services that can be provided to clients, ‘seed-to-sale.’
• Identifying business development opportunities for members to collaborate on client engagements throughout the world.
• Recognizing and pursuing marketing opportunities, including speaking engagements, event sponsorships and participation, collaborating to co-author blogs, present webinars and podcasts, and share industry resources, including developing and enhancing referral source relationships.

The Cannabis Law and Accounting Group, powered by MGI and MI, is a "one-stop shop" concept to serve the cannabis insdustry worldwide.
